Special Service Area #37
With the support of Alderman Gene Schulter the City of Chicago has designated the Ravenswood Chamber of Commerce as the Sole Service Provider to manage Special Service Area (SSA) #37/Ravenswood Corridor in 2007. The SSA program is Chicago's version of a neighborhood-improvement funding tool used by cities throughout the United States. An SSA is a tax on properties within a defined area that funds a scope of services determined locally.
The SSA program is the only locally initiated taxing body in which property owners have direct decision-making authority on use of funds. An SSA is intended to allow a specific group of taxpayers, with a defined program of designated services, to cooperatively plan, provide, benefit from, and pay for those services within their own area. Services that are planned in 2008 for the Ravenswood Corridor SSA include but are not limited to:
- Snow plowing
- Landscaping and beautification
- Sidewalk trash removal
- Enhanced security
- Streetscape enhancements
SSA's are governed by a commission comprised of local stakeholders that direct the implementation of the program. SSA #37 Commissioners for 2008 include:

Todd Fagen, Recording Secretary
